Thom Yorke Names His New Project 'Atoms For Peace'

When Thome Yorke and his new project (with Flea and others) first agreed to play at this year’s Coachella festival they didn’t have a name for the group. This led to Coachella announcing the act as “Thom Yorke ?????” In fact, to date, the flyer on the Coachella site has not been corrected. (Check It).

Yorke announced the band’s name on the Radiohead web site yesterday. Yorke stated "It has been decided that we call ourselves Atoms For Peace. Hope you like the name. It seemed bleedin' obvious." This nomenclature is a vast departure from earlier rumors, although we at The RBH found those originally suggested to be more fitting.

Atoms For Peace is the title of one of the songs from Yorke’s solo album The Eraser and a reference to a speech President Eisenhower made to the UN Assembly back in 1953. You know, back when nuclear war was something people actually worried about.

The group will begin a US tour at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC and end it at the Coachella festival (tour dates/venues below). Atoms for Peace will be playing songs from The Eraser and any new material they come up with (i.e. covers).

What I find most interesting about this news is that Flea has chosen to work with another front man that couldn’t sing his way out of a paper bag. You’d think that someone recognized as such a great bass player would want to… ahh fuck it. Who cares? I don’t give a fuck about Flea or Tom Yorke. Yeah, that’s right. His name is fucking “Thomas” and he leaves the “h” in it when shortening it to “Tom.” How clever!
